Weekly Wondering: Part 6

Happy Thursday to my wonderful readers! I hope you are enjoying some warm weather (depending where you live) and had a nice start to the week. I’m back with another Weekly Wondering post, inspired by what’s been going on in my world this week.

If you aren’t familiar with my Weekly Wondering posts, it basically is a few questions that I have been thinking about lately or things that crossed my mind recently. I would love to head over to a Starbucks with you all and chat about these fun topics, but this is the best we can do from all over the world.

As usual I have shared my answers and look forward to learning more about you guys if you share yours!

Do you have a mascara combination? I never really understood when women use multiple mascaras at a time until recently. Different ones deliver different results, and I always thought I had to pick one or the other. But why not layer them and get volume from one and length from another? I have no actual answer to this question myself, but I am hoping you guys will give me some suggestions of mascara combinations to get the best lashes!

Summer is here – do you wear waterproof makeup? Personally I rarely wear waterproof anything. I think I use makeup remover once every two months. Most of my makeup comes off with my face wash and water. I just don’t own a lot of waterproof stuff and I find it isn’t worth the hassle to take it off at night. However summer is here and with my family cottage up north I do spend a lot of time in the water so I have been thinking about some useful waterproof products. This question is another one I don’t have an answer to but I am hoping to get some good advice from you guys!

What show could you watch over and over again? Right now I have to say Friends. That is such an iconic show and I feel like the more I watch it the more I enjoy it. I was too young when it first came out so I caught on at the last few seasons while it aired. Then as I grew up I caught reruns on TV all the time, and always enjoyed it. Now I have been going back and watching the entire series from the very first episode, and I am laughing out loud at parts, tearing up at others, and cheering at happy parts. This show really encompasses the lives of these friends and I can’t imagine ever getting sick of this show. I know I will be watching reruns of this for the rest of my life and that actually seems so exciting to me.

Here are the questions so you can answer with a comment. I hope you guys have some good suggestions for my mascara question!

Maybelline New York The Falsies Big Eyes Mascara Review

One of the biggest mascaras in the beauty world is Maybelline New York The Falsies, and although its not my go-to mascara, I do recognize why so many women love it. Maybelline is known for its iconic mascaras, ranging from Great Lash to The Rocket, and with the latest mascara launch of The Falsies Big Eyes its no wonder why. Maybelline mascaras are quickly making their way into my makeup bag and this one isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Maybelline New York The Falsies Big Eyes Mascara
The Falsies Big Eyes Volum’ Express mascara is Maybelline’s first ever dual ended mascara. There is one side for upper lashes and the other for lower ones. I think this is a great idea since I have some issues with getting my lower lashes. I usually end up with smudges under my eyes when I use a normal sized brush. This one has a tiny little brush on the lower lash end and it works really well to get nice and close.

The upper lash brush is a fairly normal medium size plastic brush. It is smaller than most other Maybelline brushed but it gives nice control. I didn’t get super volume but there was a lot of length and I liked that there was no clumping.

I’m a huge fan of Cover Girl’s Clump Crusher mascara and this delivers similar results. I love the separation of my lashes and I found it to be very pigmented. This Big Eyes is in the shade Blackest Black and it actually is. I never notice mascara colour really and don’t pay too much attention when I purchase them. Very Black or Blackest Black or just plain Black – its all the same to me. Except with Big Eyes, it actually is darker than all other mascaras I normally use.
Big Eyes Mascara

Super dark and separated lashes remind me of little dolls. Simple but still very pretty, these lashes make my eyes look wide and open, which is a pretty look for summer. It looks casual and fresh, and only took a minute. With lashes like this I don’t need to worry about my eyes looking boring when I don’t have time for eyeshadow and such, so a swipe of this on top and bottom lashes is just enough for doe-eyed doll-like lashes.

Overall I like the defined lashes I get from this, and although I don’t get Kardashian-like volume, its totally worth the separated dark lashes I can get on both the top and bottom. Having the little side do to my lower lashes is a great bonus of this mascara and that’s why it earned a permanent place in my makeup bag this summer.

OPI Bond Girls Collection: Jinx Liquid Sand Swatches and Review

OPI Bond Girls Liquid Sand Jinx
Bright coral with golden glitter, and a liquid sand formula... how can you not love this polish?! I am seriously in love with this colour and cannot gush about it enough! This is absolutely one of my all-time favourites and is taking a spot in my top ten for sure.

This stunning shade is from the OPI Bond Girls Liquid Sand collection, and after this one I really think I might go back for the rest of the set! This polish, Jinx, is the only one I picked up from the collection, and it is inspired by Halle Berry's Bond Girl role. This shade spoke to me because it was so bright and seemed perfect for warm weather.

I love how the collection revolves around some of the most iconic women in film, the Bond Girls. They are such a fierce collection of females, and as with all of the OPI movie inspired sets, the polishes match their inspiration perfectly.

I seriously love this polish. It is so wonderful in real life and the photo captures it pretty well. The gold glitter comes through like its lit from within. it looks warm and glowing. I love the bright vibrant coral colour and I adore the Liquid Sand formula.

The polish went on like a dream and was perfect in two coats. It dried super fast which is always wonderful. I wish you could see this shade in real life. It looks a million times better than the photos, even though the photos look pretty good themselves. It really is stunning and I don't have anything like it. The coral and gold is a great combination and I am inspired to use that colour combo in my clothing and makeup now.

OPI Bond Girls Liquid Sand Jinx
This colour looks phenomenal for summer. I can't wait to add a top coat to see what this will look like shiny. Totally a new favourite and I can see myself wearing this one a lot through the summer.

Do you have any other Bond Girls shades? I want to pick up a few more so I would love to hear some suggestions!

Is Anne Hathaway The New Miley Cyrus? See Her Sexy Met Gala Gown and Bleach Blonde Hair!

Anne Hathaway in Valentino at the 2013 Met Gala
Anne Hathaway went blonde?! OMG did you guys see her at the Met Gala? I have to say I am beyond loving this edgy new hair colour on her! Anne always looks so sweet and gentle but this bleach blonde is making her a little more Miley Cyrus-like. Very rocker chic cool, not at all what I would have expected from her.

Luckily this doesn't mean she's going off the rail like Miley did. Anne keeps her edgy look classy with her sweet demeanor, and just shows this off as a fun style change.

Her dress is pretty edgy too – sheer feathered black Valentino. Anne is making a style 180 and I am really loving it. The shiny feathered cuffs give a bit of an Old Hollywood glam hint to the otherwise edgy outfit.

The way it hugs her curves also adds to the vintage silhouette. This is a very grown up look and much more revealing than typical Anne style.  I cannot get over this look on her and I have to say it might be going in my top 10 red carpet looks.

After chopping off her long locks for Les Mis I thought that was the extreme for Anne, but clearly she has a lot more up her feathered sleeve. This look is probably the sexiest look I have seen on her and she is really pulling it off. She is a grown woman so its fun to see her branch out from the safer style choices and go with something daring. This dress would look awesome on a lot of ladies but I love the way it contrasts with Anne's gentle personality.

Anne Hathaway's soft blonde pixie cut
She also showed off her new blonde do in a more glamorous look a few days after the Met Gala. I like it both ways and love the diversity of the new cut. She can amp it up with a rock glam style using some gel, or she can wear it softer for a more feminine sweet look.

The new colour looks stunning on her and I totally love the sparkly makeup she paired with it! Can we take a moment to look at that eye makeup? Sleek black liner and silver glitter shadow is always a winning combination in my books!

This softer style looks more like classic Anne Hathaway, but it still has some intensity to it. She showed it off this way at the Tate Americas Foundation Artists Dinner in NYC on May 8, 2013. This is super elegant and sophisticated, which is typical for her, but it has some extra spark to it with the new colour.

This new hair style looks so great on her and I can't wait to see what she shows off on the next red carpet. I really like it both ways, and unlike Miley's crazy rebellion I think Anne is just evolving with her personal style. Way to go Anne!

ROI Relations Annual Mother’s Day Event 2013

ROI Photo Balloon Wall
On Wednesday night ROI Relations hosted a fantastic Mother’s Day event showcasing a bunch of awesome beauty brands. From Garnier hair care to Maybelline New York makeup, there were activities and excitement all night long.

There were a ton of fun beautiful people there, and lots of media to mingle with. I got to check out each station up close and personal. Here are some of the event highlights to show you!

Kiss Nail Station
Kiss Nails had a station where you could get a full manicure done with a huge selection of imPress Press-On Nails by Broadway. The celebrity collections of Cheryl Burke and fellow spokeswomen were featured. There was also an adorable cookie decorating station where you could ice a lady finger cookie to match designs of Kiss Nail Dress stickers.

There were also super cute lip shaped cookies to decorate and use for a balloon photo booth. The lipstick cookie colours were modeled after Maybelline New York Color Sensational Vivids lipstick line, and they matched perfectly to the bright hues! I just posted about these great lipsticks, so check out my full review of them here.

Maybelline New York also had two makeup artists on hand to show some fun ways to use their latest products. A tip I learned last night was to use Maybelline Baby Lips in Quenched, along with Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr Cream Gel Shadow in Barely Branded as a highlighter. Who knew these products were so multi-functional?!

Kiss and Maybelline Cookie Station
Garnier was featured at a sweet smoothie bar where there were some yummy drinks inspired by the new Garnier Fructis Fruit Sensations shampoo and conditioners. The recipes were given out along with a mason jar prepped for an at-home smoothie!

Demeter Scents
Demeter Fragrances, which I recently discovered and posted about here, was also on hand for a scent sampling station. There were a bunch of fun summer scents available to mix and match in order to come up with a personal fragrance. I loved the variety of Demeter scents and they all were perfect for summer. Some of these scents are available at select Loblaws stores in 30ml bottles so check those out if you happen to be getting groceries  There was also a hand massage station that offered a little pampering session to try out the Demeter massage oils.

Overall this event was such a blast to be a part of and I had tons of fun! The stations were super interactive and really interesting, and the whole night was a blast to be a part of!
