Good morning my dear readers! Today I have a new little segment that I wanted to test drive with you guys. Being a total girly-girl and beauty junkie, I am almost always thinking about something nail polish or makeup related. I read magazines and blogs everyday so there are always new ideas floating around for me to think about.
Since we can't meet up for a chat in a coffee shop, I wanted to see if you might want to talk about some beauty thoughts here once in a while with me. This post will be the guinea pig of this concept, so we'll see how this one goes and hopefully we can keep this little chat session coming back.
My first topic of thought is nail length. Personally I feel the best with medium to long nails, and whenever mine get short I get self conscious about them. They can be tricky to handle if they get too long, and shorter ones are less to worry about, but for some reason I feel like I need a little length to like my nails. So what do you guys think about nail lengths that suit you? I'd love the hear your opinions on this in the comments!
Another thing that has been on my mind lately is buying polish. I used to be so eager to get the latest colours, but by now I feel like I need to save for school and such. I feel so boring that I haven't bought a new nail polish in months. I still see all the swatches of upcoming collections and definitely drool over them, but I haven't bought anything recently. What about you guys, have you seen it all or do you still find polishes to purchase?
The last thought I wanted to share with you guys was about my feelings on foundation. I used to think it was an unnecessary extra step a few years ago, but within the last year I have fallen in love. The minute I put on foundation I feel like a brand new blank canvas. It is surprising to me that this is probably one of my favourite steps of my morning makeup routine when only a short while ago I thought it was useless. Now I love it, but what about you guys, do you need foundation, love it, or hate it?
At the very least this post allowed me to share my thoughts and get them out of my head. I would love to hear the various opinions you guys have so please join in and we can pretend we're sipping lattes together while we chat. I hope to learn a little more about each of you wonderful followers through this post too, so feel free to share your thoughts on the topics.

Mornig Emalitsa! I love this idea! It not only lets your readers learn more about you, but it gets everyone interacting together :D
ReplyDeleteNail length: I LOVE my nails long. I was a nail biter up until about 2.5 years ago and I will never go back :) The longer I can keep them the better I feel, but sometimes they do get in the way (typing for example, and doing up flies on pants, lol!). I hate when one breaks off shorter than the rest of my nails (I'm self-diagnosed with OCD so this drives me crazy!).
Buying polish: I will admit, I'm getting really bad for this. I need to stop/resist buying, lol! Ever since joining Julep's Maven program I have been addicted to buying polish every chance I get. I am also jumping onto the indie polish train with both feet, so they get me every time too!
Foundation: I have oily skin on my face, so I have found one that keeps the shine down (by Cover Girl), but I'm one of those roll-out-of-bed-and-out-the-door people, so sometimes I put it on and sometimes I don't. I also find when I do stuff (blow my nose for example) it comes of anyways, so I feel like it's a waste of time sometimes. I'm definitely on the fence about foundation :) Also, when I was younger I found that if I used it, even though I have oily skin, it would dry my skin out really bad, so I avoided using it at all until maybe 8 months ago.
Thanks for allowing us to express our opinions on beauty products :) It's fun getting to know how other people see things :D
Morning Erica! You can call me Emily! And yes I totally agree, it lets everyone learn a little more about each other when we're spread all over the world!
DeleteI was definitely a nail biter too, so I feel especially proud when I have long nails!
That Julep Maven is a killer for adding polishes to your stash! So addicting isn't it?! And indie brands are always popping up with new things, I can see why that is so hard to resist!
Thanks so much for sharing your opinions! I'm glad you enjoy the concept and hopefully we can keep it up!
Haha, I knew that but forgot, my bad ;)
DeleteOh yeah, Julep is terrible, but in a really good way, haha! I went from having maybe 20 polishes before my nail biting days were over to almost 100, and that's just since.. late last year I think. It sure doesn't take long! I am running out of space in my shoe box, so I'm going to have to find different means of storage before I get my next Julep box :D
Oh Erica! 20 to 100 is a big jump.. but wait until you're past 600 like me! Eeek! You still have a long way to go until you stop buying polishes, haha! :)
DeleteGreat questions, Emily. (One of my nieces is named Emily. :)) On nail length, I like nubbins, from time to time and will on occasion file down to nubs and rock deep, dark, vampy polish. My usual, best nail length is a few millimeters past the end of my fingers. My nails feel long and look long, since I have longer nail beds but they aren't so long that they get in my way when I am typing, doing housework and so forth. I love the look of my nails when they (rarely) get a good deal longer but they are just far too delicate to last long at that length.
ReplyDeleteI still lust over new collections. I can't help myself. I buy as many as I can possibly comfortably afford, I certainly can't buy all of the polishes I want. *sigh* Indies... Love them but don't own but two, right now.
I have worn foundation for so many, many years that it just part of my routine and I feel that I look better with it. My skin has improved so much in tone in the past few years that I can now get away with tinted moisturizer when I want to use it but in days past, I needed heavy coverage. I don't go out without foundation or tinted moisturizer, I am too self conscious to bare my face to the world. :)
That is so lucky to have long nail beds! That lets you keep a reasonable length that still looks a lot longer. Mine are so tiny, my Mother says my fingers look like smarties when they are too short because they are so short they look like a circle.
DeleteI don't own any indie polishes yet, I am trying not to but at all but I have a feeling I will cave sooner rather than later!
I totally get it about being self conscious without foundation. If I leave the house the two things I absolutely must do no matter if its a quick trip to the corner store is foundation and a swipe of mascara.
Thanks for commenting and sharing your opinions!
Hello, I've never commented or replied before but this was just calling out for a reply :)
ReplyDeletePersonally I also prefer longer nail lengths although they can get a little dangerous and I have to be careful not to break a nail. I haven't had short nails since 2 years ago, I just don't think they look as good.
Haha buying polish is currently one of my favourite past times! I only started getting obsessed with nail polish last year so I still get excited over new collections and have to buy at least one or two bottles from every new collection :/ A bad habit, I know. I'm trying to cut down haha!
I don't use foundation at all but that's because I'm a student and we're kinda not allowed to use makeup. But then again, I also haven't found a foundation that feels comfortable enough on my skin. I always feel like it makes my skin oilier than it already is.
Hi Rachael! I am so glad to see you chose this to comment on!
DeleteYou must be very careful to have kept long nails for two years! That is impressive - mine usually break within a month. I should be more cautious!
I was exactly the same when I just started buying polish, a few here and there adds up though and now my collection is so big!
I also have oily skin and it took me years to find the perfect foundation. Currently I am using one by NYC that is oil-free and really inexpensive. Its been the nest one yet for my skin, so if you ever are interested maybe check that out.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on the topics!
Haha, I usually file them down a little every week so they're not long enough for me to break all that easily unless I'm extremely careless!
DeleteHow many do you have in your collection now? :) Haha yup, I buy like 2 or 3 every week. It's so hard to stop the habit because the colours are all so attractive!
Oh, I see. Okay! I shall check that out :) Thank you!
I actually have close to 800 now Rachael! A year ago when I was buying 2 or 3 a week it added up so fast!
DeleteOh my! Wow, that's a lot! How do you find the space to store so many? And do you throw out your old polishes?
DeleteI have an entire 9 drawer Ikea unit that contains all of my polishes, organized by brand and colour. A little crazy aren't I? Haha!
DeleteEvery once in a while I get rid of a few that are really disgusting. but generally since I keep them in a proper storage system they're all still fine.
WOW that sounds amazing! I have slightly more than 50 and my friends bought me one of those compartment drawers to store them in for my birthday. Imagine my ecstasy! Haha, I organise mine by colour but there isn't much to organise yet. Nah, it's not crazy. It's so cool! :)
DeleteWhen it comes to nail length, I like at least a little length because I feel my hands don't look good with nubbins. Some ladies look elegant with nubbins but not me. I don't like to go too long, though, partly because it's not practical but also because after a certain point, my nails look strange to me. Sometimes I'll look at photos I've taken when my nails were on the long side of my normal range and think "those aren't my hands". :)
ReplyDeleteI go through times when I'll feel overwhelmed by all the new polishes and not buy anything for a while, but those moments always seem to pass pretty quickly!
Hi Karen!
DeleteI feel the same way. Sometimes I see women with short nails and it looks so chic on them but I cannot pull it off. I also have those times where my hands look like somebody else's when the nails are too long.
I think that is a great way to sum it up - overwhelmed. I feel that way every time I look at my collection so I know for sure I don't need to be buying more. Unless a colour really strikes my interest.
