Polish Stash Spreadsheet Progress

Today I want to show you a project I have been wanting to start for a long time. I have always wanted to create a detailed spreadsheet of my nail polish collection, for many reasons. It would help me see what colours I have and it would help me when I write posts. I always end up having to Google what year or collection a polish comes from, but with this I have everything I need in one document. I also like knowing how many of each brand I have or if I have a lot of one colour or another.

With over 600 polishes in my collection this is a big task and I am starting slowly. I have inputted about 205 so far, and that took me pretty much a full day. I do have to look up years and such to create this, so it is time consuming, but I am really happy with how far I have gotten. I also am doing this from memory since I am not at home with my drawers of polish, so I would say that is pretty impressive that I remembered over 200 nail polishes just from my memory.

This is my little project for the holiday break from school, and I plan to have it done pretty soon. I have included a little screenshot to show you my organization process. The blue box is for when I don't know what colour family to classify the polish, and the yellow box is to remind me to check my stash and make sure I actually have the polish and my memory is not wrong.

I am organizing them by the following categories - polish name, brand, collection and year, colour family, and finish. The empty column is for swatch photos, so when I finish this my next goal is to swatch and post every polish and then link the swatch post to the spreadsheet. That will be a big project!

I was thinking about showing you guys some sections of my spreadsheet when I finish to help decide what to swatch and when. I think it would be boring to just go alphabetically or something so I am trying to find a creative way to swatch the mass amounts of polish when this happens.

Do any of you have a spreadsheet for your stash? Or am I a crazy polish lady to try to do this? leave a comment and let me know what you think!

  1. A great project! I have a spread sheet as well and it pretty much contains what yours does, plus what I paid for every polish. This helps me keep everything balanced. Like when I found out that ordering essie from overseas was getting more expensive than buying it locally.

Lots of strong coffee, a daylight lamp and staying power to you!

    :)

  2. You are amazing for trying to put this together! I love me some organization and spreadsheet documentation, but 600 polishes WITH swatches? That's quite the task!

  4. This is super awesome, and an amazing reference!! I try to remember which collection nail polishes came from when writing blog posts, so this is a fantastic idea!! :D
I have a very simple list on my blog of my collection, and I also carry a nail polish swatch notebook with me so I can tell what I already have :D.
That is so awesome that you remembered all of those off the top of your head!
