Maybelline New York Color Tattoo Metal Reviews: Gold Rush, Electric Blue, Barely Branded

Maybelline Color Tattoo Metals

One of my all-time favourite eye products is the Maybelline New York Color Tattoo line of cream gel shadows. The formula is super smooth, I love the colours, and they last such a long time. I have quite a few of the original collection and wear them regularly, so when the new Metal collection came along I was super excited.

The new Maybelline New York Color Tattoo Metal 24Hr Cream Gel Shadow line consists of five bold metallic shades, and I have a few of them to show you today. The crease-proof formula and vibrant icy colours make these shadows fantastic for all kinds of eye looks. My favourite way to wear them is just a solid shade swept across my lids.

Barely Branded is a lighter frosty nude shade, which is really great for a fresh simple look. This one is probably the most versatile since you can blend it with a lot of other colours for a variety of eye looks. As a word of warning, I do have fairly tanned skin, an olive skin tone, so this does show up on me but it may not be as noticeable on a more fair skin tone.

Gold Rush is such a vibrant metallic colour, complete with shimmer and flecks of gold. This one is totally a party colour – it makes me think of New Year’s Eve or some special occasion. This one might be my favourite of the Metals because it really is so bold and bright.

Electric Blue looks absolutely stunning the jar, and the swatch is just as good. I love the bold blue shade and since I have brown eyes I was really excited to try this one out. Out of all three I swatched this one stayed on the longest, lasting through multiple washes and me wiping at my arm with a tissue.

Something about the formula of these really stands out to me. They are pretty solid in the pots but when you apply them they feel like they melt. They are smooth and really easy to blend around on your lids, but then they stay for a long time. It’s almost like they melt for a while during application and then solidify a bit to get that lasting power.

All in all these are great colours that don’t crease, blend well, apply smoothly, and last for hours. Who would say no to that? Certainly not me! The new launch of Color Tattoo Metals is quickly making its way up the ranks in my makeup drawer, and I find myself reaching for these frequently.

  1. Hey Emily, I love the shades you picked out and I'm happy to hear the formula works well for you! I have two of these and I was really blown away by their performance, but we only get 8 shades here in Belgium and I really hope these will eventually join the line-up but I'm not too hopeful!

  4. The only one of thee I've tried is Tough as Taupe and it was fantastic! I think these are better than MAC Paint Pots b/c they last longer without creasing AND they are cheaper - bonus! Thanks for posting your review and swatches!
